ABOUT THE UNIT 

This unit is an elective unit for the Certificate IV in Library and Information Services. The unit provides the skills and knowledge required to meet customer’s needs using Integrated Library Management Systems (ILMS). It provides basic understanding of the interrelated functions of an ILMS for use for online catalogues, processing loan transactions, and providing circulation and lending services to customers. The unit will cover the following areas:

  • Develop an understanding of ILMS
  • Basic functions of an ILMS
  • Various modules of ILMS
  • Providing loans information to customers
  • Safe work practices
  • Prioritising customer service
  • Processing financial transactions
  • Use online catalogues to assist customers
  • Classification numbers, symbols and prefixes
  • Industry trends and emerging technologies
  • Open Content, Creative Commons and Copyright
  • Software and hardware add-ons
