About the unit

This unit is an elective unit for the Certificate II of Information and Cultural Services and the Certificate III and Certificate IV in Library and Information Services. The unit introduces you to skills and knowledge required to process loan transactions and respond to circulation and lending enquiries from customers. The unit will cover the following areas:

  • Provide current and accurate information to customers, through effective navigation and use of your library’s circulation system
  • Assisting and responding to customers with basic enquiries
  • Understanding manual and automated circulation systems
  • Automation of lending services tasks to reduce occupational hazards
  • Keeping up to date with current and future technologies
  • Processing loan and return transactions
  • Registering new borrowers and members
  • Lending services policies and procedures
  • Maintaining customer service standards
  • Circulation and lending services transactions
  • Reserved items
  • Inter-library loans
  • Library fees and charges
  • Dealing with competing demands for service
  • Conducting financial transactions
  • Balancing income with receipts
  • Processing credit card and EFTPOS transactions
  • Reporting financial errors
