A great starting point for anyone looking to develop a career in library and information services. This course is ideal for new workers wishing to fulfil the role of a Library Trainee or Library Assistant/Aide.

It provides library workers with the skills and knowledge to undertake a range of supervised tasks such as responding to enquiries, assisting with business and multimedia equipment, processing loans and returns of library resources using automated systems and working as part of a library team.

There are written and practical assessments for each unit. Practical assessment tasks are completed in the workplace and are based on ‘real-life’ library tasks and situations.

Course duration

12 months full time or 24 months part time.

Entry requirements

Prospective students are required to:

  • have completed Year 10
  • be working in a library or prepared to volunteer in a library
  • possess computer skills and have access to a computer and the internet

Course fees

Full fee for 12 units: $4,050
(This includes a $150 non-refundable administration fee)
