Course outline

A starting point for anyone looking to develop a career in library and information services.This course is ideal for school-based students or new workers wishing to fulfil the role of a Library Trainee or Library Assistant/Aide.

It provides library workers with the skills and knowledge to undertake a range of supervised tasks such as processing loans and returns of library resources using automated systems, responding to enquiries and working as part of a library team.

The course is suitable for VET in Schools delivery and provides a good foundation for further study to higher level library qualifications.

There are written and practical assessments for each unit. Practical assessment tasks are completed in the workplace and are based on ‘real-life’ library tasks and situations.

Course duration

12 months full time or 24 months part time.

Entry requirements

Prospective students are required to:

  • have completed Year 10
  • be working in a library or prepared to volunteer in a library
  • possess computer skills and have access to a computer and the internet

Course fees

Full fee for 8 units: $2,750
(This includes a $150 non-refundable administration fee)
